Vest Fashion

As an Army Reservist, am I REQUIRED to wear a reflective vest while riding my motorcycle to and from drill?

I know that if a soldier dies on a motorcycle without wearing a reflective vest, then his/her life insurance is voided...but is there an actual "law" that REQUIRES a soldier to wear the reflective vest when on post...specifically an Army RESERVIST. If there is a law, can you tell me where it is and/or where I can find it. Thank you in advance! Thank you all for the information. Just to clear something up, I am not trying to "void my insurance" or "make a point." I am merely trying to gain solid information to encourage others to wear proper PPE. That being said, please mind your business and answer my question rather than criticize.

  1. It is not a law, it is a Army regulation. Failure to wear the vest is a failure to follow a lawful order. It is available in Army regulation 190-5. You can see that here http://www.army.mil/usapa/epubs/pdf/r190_5.pdf
  2. What DavidMI711 said. Especially if you are on an installation. AR 385-1 is the Army Safety regulation, and nearly every organization in the Army has local addenda to it, such as the requirement to wear a reflective vest whenever on a motorcycle in ACUs. Failure to comply with the regulation could lead to disciplinary action, particularly if you were in an accident or were cited for a traffic violation enroute to or from drill

  4. Why would you want to void your insurance policy that covers you 24/7 irregardless of you being on duty. Asking you to wear a reflective vest is not much for 500,000 dollars of insurance. By the way, you are subject to UCMJ while going to drill and when coming back. Instead of trying to make a point, do the easy and right thing.
  5. You are REQUIRED to wear your PPE at ALL times while on your bike.
  6. yes
  7. They're not laws but they usually are post regulations and they refer to anyone on a motorcycle who desire entry onto the base, even full fledged civilians. Good luck to you
  8. As part of your insurance, you are required to follow all laws and local ordinances. If the base commander wants you to wear a helmet, reflective vest and pink panties while riding a motorcycle, that constitutes a local ordinance. Forget the insurance. If you do not follow base rules when on base, they can ban you from riding on base. In that case, you get to ride your motorcycle to the front gate, park it in the parking lot and walk from there to your duty section on base. Stop trying to fight city hall. You can not win.
