- Get an orange hunting vest. You can either get some that have pockets for actually hunting, or they make some that are just orange so you're visible, for like at something like a Hunt Test where they shoot on course, and anyone watching is required to wear orange. Then, you can get some reflective tape to sew on, and fabric paint to write something on, if you so chose.
- The best thing to do is go to a local pawn shop or wal mart, buy an orange hunting vest. They are really cheap... Then use a sharpie or black tape to put whatever you want on the back.. I must be honest though, it more then likely will not help. People are inconsiderate of horsemen. They normally won't scoot over or slow down, no matter the situation. If you horse is spooky around traffic, the best thing to do is stay at the barn you board at.
- Quite honestly having writing on reflective vests does not do a lot of good. A vehicle is on top of you before they can read it. What I have found more effective is to get a pair of 'L' plates and fix them onto a reflective vest. It is recognised by all drivers and, most will sow down even if it is just to comment "Is it you or the horse that's the learner?"
- The best one I have ever found is one saying 'CAUTION DISABLED RIDER'. I borrowed it from a friend (who is disabled) when i left my reflective at home. My god did traffic slow down and give me miles of room. The one i currently have at home says 'PLEASE PASS WIDE AND SLOW' it is quite good but not as effective as the disabled rider one.
